A multi-agency investigation into the cause of the fire, carried out this morning, determined that it was ‘probably started deliberately’.

Nobody is being sought in connection with the incident.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Fire investigation officers believe a flat fire in which a man sadly lost his life was probably started deliberately.

“They will now prepare their findings for the coroner.

“Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of the man who died.”
