Driver of stolen car smashes into Sheffield bus carrying passengers during police chase

The driver of a stolen car smashed into a bus carrying passengers during a police chase before fleeing the scene.

Police said officers located a Ford Focus which had been reported as stolen on the Sheffield Parkway at around 8.08am on Monday (21 December).

A pursuit began when the driver failed to stop and was followed on to Birley Moor Road, where the car collided with a bus with seven people on board as well as the driver.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The bus driver and seven passengers on board were uninjured. The driver was checked over by ambulance crews as a precaution.

"The driver of the Ford Focus fled the scene. The road was closed for a short time but has now reopened.”

The spokesperson added: “Enquiries to locate the driver of the Ford Focus are ongoing.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 155 of 21 December.”
