Vandals struck on Saturday evening in the Skelton area of Woodhouse, where a councillor said it was the latest example of ongoing problems with ‘mindless’ vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

Labour councillor Mick Rooney said he received two phone calls on Saturday evening with reports of more walls being knocked down on Skelton Grove.

"I could not believe my eyes when I saw the extent of the damage,” he said.

He added: “I am seeking an urgent meeting with the police, not just about this very serious issue but the ongoing problems in the Woodhouse area with mindless vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

“I believe this is caused by a few individuals. Past experience has shown if action is taken against the leaders in the group this reduces greatly the problem. I will be pushing the police to identify the ring-leaders and take action against them.”
