He took money from Sheffield households to remove waste then dumped it in country lanes

A Sheffield flytipper ran adverts on social media offering to take waste away but then dumped it on country lanes in Derbyshire.

David Mills, of City Road, was caught after piles of chipboard, household rubbish and gravel bags were discovered on Mill Road, Eckington, in June 2024.

The 44-year-old took money from households to remove waste from properties in Sheffield and Coal Aston before slinging it on country lanes.

Mr Mills attended an interview under caution at North East Derbyshire Council offices and admitted to using a relative’s van to flytip the rubbish.

He was prosecuted but failed to attend a court hearing on June 2, 2025, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Mills was then arrested for a separate offence on April 12, 2026, leading to his day in court over the flytipping.

He was fined £200 and ordered to pay £280 in costs.

NEDDC cabinet member for Environmental Services, Stephen Pickering, said: “Our staff take great pride in keeping our district clean and tidy and we won’t tolerate it being used as a dumping ground for other people’s waste.

“As this case shows, no matter how long it takes, we will pursue those responsible for blighting our environment and bring them to justice.

“This also serves as a reminder to residents to make sure you know who is collecting your waste and check they have the appropriate waste carrier’s licence.”
