Councillor urged people of Sheffield to "cherish your children" in touching tribute after murder of newborn
“This tragedy has affected our local community deeply, and it is extremely sad to see something so devastating happen here in Sheffield”
A Sheffield councillor has urged parents across the city to “cherish your children” as communities have been rocked by the murder of a newborn baby.
Burngreave ward councillor Mustafa Ahmed shared his thoughts on the day five people were charged in connection with a baby girl’s death on Sunday, August 30.
Coun Ahmed described the incident as “a heartbreaking tragedy in our community”.
Police officers found the baby’s body in a property on Holywell Heights, Wincobank, after reports of concern for the welfare of the infant were made on Sunday morning.
The baby had been stabbed and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It is deeply heartbreaking and distressing to hear about the tragic death of a newborn baby in Sheffield,” Coun Ahmed said,
“My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this devastating incident.
“As a local councillor, I want to send a message to every parent and every family across Sheffield: please cherish your children, care for them, protect them and make sure they are safe.
“Children are precious and depend on us to keep them safe and give them the love and care they deserve.”
Andrea Skopova, aged 20, Peter Horvath, 19, Peter Horvath, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, have been charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal the killing of an infant.
A 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to her age, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.
All five appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court earlier today.

“This tragedy has affected our local community deeply, and it is extremely sad to see something so devastating happen here in Sheffield,” Coun Ahmed continued.
“I would also like to thank South Yorkshire Police for taking this incident extremely seriously and for keeping the community informed with updates while their investigation continues.
“My thoughts remain with the baby, the family, and everyone affected.
“Please look after your children. Love them, protect them and keep them safe.”
