Club retires football shirt worn by Sheffield man after he was stabbed to death

A football shirt worn by a young man stabbed to death in Sheffield has been retired and is to be put on display in the pub he played for.

Jordan Marples-Douglas, aged 23, was stabbed to death in a house on Woodthorpe Road, Woodthorpe, on Friday night.

A police investigation into his murder is under way but no arrests have yet been made.

Jordan was a popular member of Terminus Tavern FC and scored in the last game he played the weekend before his death.

His shirt has been retired now and is to be framed put on display in the Terminus Tavern in Darnall, where his team gathered over the weekend to remember him.

Paying tribute to him on Twitter, Terminus Tavern FC said: “Jordan scored last week and the shirt he wore has now been retired and will be framed and hung on the wall inside the Terminus Tavern.”

The team said players were ‘absolutely devastated’ at Jordan’s death.

Jordan used to play grassroots football for Abbey Lane Football Club as a youngster.

Posting on Facebook, Carl James Garnham, said: “Jordan was a team mate of my lad’s at Abbey Lane some years ago, he’d sometimes play in the net when my lad couldn’t. He was a great footballer, captain and a great lad.

“So very sorry to hear this terrible news. Taken way too young.”

He described him as a ‘lovely lad’ and ‘great team mate’.

“It seems like only yesterday their age group were just going into junior school at six and seven,” he said.

“Absolutely gutted and heartbroken for the lad, his family and friends.

“He was proper loved by all, parents, team mates and the coaches. Such a tragedy.”

Kay Rawson posted: “Rest in peace Jordan. We all love you, the most amazing young man you could meet.”

Paramedics battled to revive Jordan when they were alerted to the stabbing on Friday night but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead a short time later.
