“As I pulled round the corner onto Chancet Wood Drive, I could see something wasn’t right and as I realised this poor woman was fighting a lad in her car – she screamed for help.

“I tried to block him with my van but wasn't quick enough and I didn't want to risk injury to the woman, as he pulled off dragging the woman across the road.

“I jumped out as fast as I could to try and grab hold of him but he was off with her car and all her belongings inside. My attention turned straight to the poor lady laid out in the middle of the road and calling 999.”

She said the man had opened the victim’s car door and had then punched her in the face a couple of times, and dragged her out the car.

She added the victim had been left with a lump ‘bigger than tennis ball’ on the back of her head which was bleeding, and she she thought the car jacker may have hit her with something.

She said she wanted to warn people to be careful if they stopped their cars, and said she was urging them to keep their vehicle doors locked.

“This was at 3.45pm in broad daylight, only metres away from a school, in what I think most of us would class a nice area,” she added.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement: “Detectives in Sheffield are appealing for information after a woman was robbed yesterday (Tuesday, October 4).
