South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the blaze, which broke out close to St Joseph’s Church on Handsworth Road just after 6pm, started at the rear of the car wash and spread to a fence, artificial grass and a portable cabin.

Two fire engines were deployed to the incident and spent over an hour at the scene.

The fire generated plumes of thick black smoke.
