The 11-year-old girl was with her four-year-old sister when they were approached by a man on East Bank Road, in Arbourthorne, yesterday, Thursday, February 14, at 6.30pm.

South Yorkshire Police, who said both girls had escaped unharmed and raised the alarm, today revealed they had arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the incident following a CCTV appeal.

He claimed what happened had left many families in the area feeling nervous about their own children, but told how the increased police presence there had ‘provided some reassurance’.

“We hope that officers will be able to bring to justice whoever is responsible,” he added.
