Sheffield Crown Court heard on April 15 how Ian England, aged 46, of Cliffe Road, Brampton, Barnsley, slapped a youngster’s leg, grabbed his wife’s cousin by the neck and bit his wife’s hand.

Adam Walker, prosecuting, said England had been playing cards with family when he became so annoyed that a youngster was using a mobile phone and not paying attention that he slapped her on a leg.

As England’s wife tried to intervene she was bitten on her left hand by the defendant, according to Mr Walker.

England, who has been suffering since the death of a daughter, pleaded guilty to three assaults after the incident on September 24, 2020.

Lauren Hebditch, defending, said after the offences England was remanded in custody for a month, and he has been trying to get his job back and has not seen his family.
