9. Tommy Petruska: Jailed for two years on September 9, 2026 for grievous bodily harm
A “silly argument” over a crack pipe left an addict with a “life-threatening” hole in his stomach requiring emergency surgery, a Sheffield judge heard. The injured man spent three days unable to eat and vomiting before going to A&E - where it was discovered the gash in his belly lining had leaked “bile” into his abdominal cavity. He received the beating from fellow crack fiend Tommy Petruska, 31, said prosecutor Richard Davies, when the pair fell out about the drug taking apparatus at a friend’s flat in Barnsley on January 19. Sheffield Crown Court heard “enraged” Petruska punched his “frail” victim to the face, broke his ribs and bit his finger during the beating. Petruska, of Honeywell Grove, Barnsley, admitted grievous bodily harm. He was handed two years’ jail and a three-year restraining order. | SYP

10. Agim Tafa: Jailed for two years, four months on September 10, 2026 for production of cannabis
Weed growers knocked a hole between two Sheffield houses - using both buildings to cultivate over 500 cannabis plants, a court heard. Agim Tafa, aged 54, who lived in one of the properties, was arrested and admitted growing the pot - however Sheffield Crown Court heard he was acting “under the direction” of the crop’s owner. Neil Coxon, prosecuting, said police found 484 cuttings and mature plants in one house on Ecclesall Road, and - through a “crudely” made hole knocked into Tafa’s adjoining property on side street Marmion Road, another 49 plants. He described how on August 11 immigration officers attended Marmion Road on “an unrelated matter” before being gobsmacked by the gaping hole and the amount of weed. Noting that the grow was “substantial and sophisticated” Recorder Ian Mullarkey jailed Tafa for two years and three months. Tafa, of Marmion Road, admitted producing cannabis. | SYP

11. John Robinson: Jailed for 26 months on September 2, 2026 for dangerous driving and outraging public decency
A boozed-up criminal crashed into other drivers on a crazed joyride, before exposing himself and attacking police officers. John Robinson, aged 45, began his crime spree by making off in a black Vauxhall Mokka after the owner got out of the car to check a noise at the rear of his vehicle. Robinson had consumed an entire bottle of whisky immediately beforehand, Sheffield Crown Court heard on September 2, 2026. After taking the car, Robinson drove off at speed and in such a dangerous manner that a member of the public felt compelled to follow him and tell police what was happening. Oishee Dey, prosecuting, told the court that Robinson, who does not hold a driving licence, drove on the wrong side of the road and with the driver’s side door open while travelling at speed. He crashed into a number of other cars. Despite the police investigation into that matter, Robinson was out on the streets and offending whilst intoxicated just five months later, the court heard. Ms Dey said that Robinson repeatedly shouted “Claire” outside a stranger’s house, exposed himself multiple times, and squatted on the floor, while his trousers and underwear were around his ankles. Robinson pleaded guilty to offences of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle without insurance, outraging public decency and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker at an earlier hearing. Jailing Robinson for 26 months, Judge David Dixon said he did not “see a scope for rehabilitation” in his case | SYP

12. Ahmed Ahmed and Kardo Ali: Jailed for combined total of over 10 years in September 2026 for drug offences
Two men jailed for their roles in three drug lines operating in Sheffield flooded the city’s streets with “vast quantities” of heroin and crack cocaine. South Yorkshire Police say their convictions followed a complex investigation by the force’s Sheffield Fortify team - a police squad responsible for tackling serious and organised crime in the city. Last year it launched an investigation into the 'Frank' 'Mario' and 'Arab' drug lines which were operating predominantly in the Upperthorpe area of the city. They identified phone numbers linked to each drug line which could be tracked back to 26-year-old Ahmed Ahmed (left). Detectives discovered he managed each of the lines, which expert drug witnesses estimated supplied £400,000 of crack cocaine and heroin to the streets of Sheffield over a 10-month period. Ahmed was arrested in December at his home after a police raid uncovered drugs, cash and paraphernalia linked to drug crime. Within the property, officers also arrested Kardo Ali - with evidence later linking him as a dealer in Ahmed's operation. Ahmed, of Handsworth Road, Handsworth, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin, being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and acquiring/ using / possessing criminal property. He appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday September 11 where he was jailed for seven years and seven months. Ali, of Utting Avenue East, Norris Green, Liverpool, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin and being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine. At the same hearing the 28-year-old was jailed to three years in prison | SYP
