5. Mohammed Khan: Jailed for four years, six months on September 9, 2026 over drug dealing and dangerous driving
A callous drug dealer left a woman for dead after crashing into the side of her car - and only called the emergency services to make a false vehicle theft report. Mohammed Khan caused the serious collision, at a four-way crossroads on Wostenholm Road, Sharrow, during a May 2026 crime spree involving thousands of pounds of drugs and weapons including a machete. “You drove into the side of her vehicle, which was proceeding through the crossroads safely, and quickly fled the scene without a moment’s thought for anyone but yourself,” the judge, Recorder Richard Thyne KC, told Khan. He did not attempt to check the condition of the woman he crashed into, who suffered injuries including fractured ribs in the collision. A hearing held on September 9, 2026 heard how police searches of Khan’s car and home, carried out either side of the crash, led to thousands of pounds of cocaine, ketamine and cannabis being recovered, along with cash, several mobile phones and weapons including a machete. Khan, 22, of Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to a raft of charges including possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs, possessing bladed articles in public places, dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice at an earlier hearing. Recorder Thyne jailed Khan for six years, four months | SYP

6. Joshua Dunleavey: Jailed for 14 months on September 9, 2026 for assaulting and abusing police officers
Joshua Dunleavey, aged 24, subjected the officers to the shocking spate of offences after they were called out to his grandmother’s home over an ongoing incident involving him, Sheffield Crown Court heard. A September 9 hearing heard how Dunleavey spat at the second officer, who was also called out to Dunleavey’s grandmother’s house, leaving “spittle” on her cheek. After being arrested, Dunleavey was transported to custody in a police van, and urinated in it while en-route. The van had to be deep cleaned after he soiled it at a cost of £100, Ms Smith said. After arriving in custody, Dunleavey racially abused an officer, using a barrage of pejorative terms. Dunleavey, of Robey Street, Page Hall, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating of an emergency worker, racially aggravated harassment and criminal damage at an earlier hearing | SYP

7. Callum Walters and Samuel Moffett: Gang members jailed for 20 years on September 10, 2026 over arson attack on elderly woman's home
Members of a drug gang burned a 78-year-old great-grandma’s Sheffield home to the ground over an issue with a rival group who were said to have “disrespected” them. Callum Walters (right) ordered the arson attack, which was carried out by fellow gang member, Samuel Moffett, at the victim’s home on Oxford Street, Upperthorpe. Walters was parked up a short distance from the blaze, in the company of a third gang member. Under the direction of Walters, Moffett set the victim’s door alight using an accelerant, and the blaze spread rapidly. It left the elderly victim trapped, and destroyed her family home, along with 30 years of happy memories with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, within minutes. Jurors convicted Walters, aged 32, of the more serious charge of arson with intent to endanger life, while Moffett, aged 37, was found guilty of arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered. Jailing Walters for 12 years, with a three-year extended licence period, Judge Charles Thomas told him: “You were prepared to order the arson of a home that endangered the life of a vulnerable elderly woman...to further the interests of an organised crime group.” He jailed Moffett for eight years, and also made him the subject of a three-year extended licence period | SYP

8. Bradley Hunt: Rapist jailed for 10 years, six months on September 9, 2026
A rapist who subjected a woman to four sex attacks has been told how his crimes have left her a house-bound “shell” of herself. Bradley Hunt remained silent as a heartbreaking statement from the woman he repeatedly raped was read to Sheffield Crown Court. Hunt, aged 35, denied carrying out the shocking sex attacks, but was found guilty of offences including rape and assault by beating after a trial at the same court. The judge, Recorder Richard Thyne KC, jailed Hunt for 10 years and six months. He categorised Hunt as a “dangerous” offender, who poses such a “significant” risk of further, sexual offending, that it is necessary to make him the subject of an extended, three-year licence period, bringing his total sentence to one of 13 years and six months. | SYP
