“Your conduct has had a serious and lasting effect on your victim”

A Sheffield man who smashed up a house, punched holes in walls and put his partner in fear of serious violence on multiple occasions has been jailed.

Heavy drinker Connor White, aged 30, was “aggressive, argumentative and controlling” during the 18-month relationship however when his abused partner reported him to police he made threats to force her to withdraw charges.

Sheffield Crown Court heard White had known his victim for some time prior to the start of the relationship in July 2024.

However Recorder Richard Wright KC noted “it soon deteriorated”, telling White: “The reason for the deterioration was you.”

The judge said “whether in drink or not”, White’s abusive behaviour continued for the remainder of the relationship.

He said: “Your behaviour became more aggressive over time. You damaged property, smashed up the house, punched holes in the walls and put your partner on fear of serious violence.

“This was persistent behaviour by you on multiple occasions. At the end of the relationship when you had gone too far even for (the complainant) you threatened her to dissuade her from making a report to the police.

“Your conduct has had a serious and lasting effect on your victim.”

The judge said White’s previous convictions - including criminal damage and threatening behaviour - and the fact he was subject of a suspended sentence at the time were “aggravating factors”.

He said: “It’s not possible to suspend the sentence given your history of non-compliance with court orders and the serious nature of the offences.”

White, of Madehurst View, Arbourthorne, was jailed for 21 months and handed a five-year restraining order.

He admitted controlling and coercive behaviour and perverting the course of justice.
