Paedophile who Googled "Jimmy Savile" jailed for abusing girl in Sheffield after meeting her on Snapchat

A 34-year-old man has been jailed after grooming a teenage girl in 2021

A man has been jailed for grooming a teenager, after he lured the victim to Sheffield where he sexually abused her.

Shoaib Mohammed, aged 34, contacted his victim on Snapchat in 2021, when she was 14-years-old.

He befriended her and convinced her he was starting a romantic relationship, lying about his own age and concealing that he was married.

Over the following months, Mohammed groomed the teenager before persuading her to leave her home in Leicester to visit him in Sheffield, at this point, the victim was 15.

He drove her to Manchester and sexually abused her in his car before returning to Sheffield. There, he secured hotel rooms to continue sexually abusing her over several days.

Mohammed, of Kentmere Drive, Doncaster and formerly of Sheffield, appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Thursday, October 29, 2026, where he was sentenced for a string of offences.

Nicola Potts, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “The evidence that this man groomed and abused the victim in this case was conclusive. However, his continued denials have taken years of work to bring him to justice as we built a case that stopped his lies in their tracks.

“Shoaib Mohammed preyed on a young victim while posing as a caring friend and romantic partner. The way he manipulated her and abused her at such a young age has caused her far-reaching damage.

“I hope that having her voice heard in court and seeing him jailed today will help that young woman in her recovery and will show that he alone is responsible for what happened to her.”

It was reported that during her stay with Mohammed, he left her abandoned in hotel rooms for hours at a time, including overnight, while he went back to his home life.

The victim’s family reported her as missing while she was away and police searching for her connected her with Mohammed, who knew her family were looking for her, so he panicked and sent her home.

He was traced by police officers from Leicestershire and proceeded to deny all involvement.

Initially, he claimed he thought the victim was over 18, but police officers went though Mohammed’s phone and found several references to her age, where she spoke about her mock GCSE’s and school life.

It’s reported that she also asked him directly if she was allowed to travel alone to meet him if she was under 16.

During the investigation, detectives discovered the exchange of sexually explicit images and videos between them. They also found Mohammed had carried out internet searches for terms such as “grooming”, “Jimmy Savile” and “Op Yewtree”.

CCTV evidence was aired in court showing he had checked into the first two hotels alone, before taking the victim inside. There were also witness accounts that other hotels had challenged him about booking a room with someone of the victim’s age.

He eventually pleaded guilty tofive counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of causing or inciting a child to sexual activity, and three counts of possessing indecent images of a child.

Mohammed was jailed for 11 years, with a three-year extended licence.

He was also handed a 15 year sexual harm prevention order limiting his contact with under 18s and online activity.

Detective Constable Daljinder Gill, from Leicestershire Constabulary, said: “Following the sentence, we want to hear from anyone else who may have experienced similar behaviour from Mohammed or who has concerns about contact they have had with him.

“If anything about this case feels familiar to you, please come and speak to us. You will be listened to, taken seriously and supported.”
