Man aged 20 lost use of legs following Sheffield Christmas Day drive-by shooting, court hears
The gun blasts were fired following a “foolish” confrontation about right of way between two drivers
A man aged 20 lost the use of both legs and an arm following a Christmas Day drive-by shooting in a Sheffield suburb, a court heard.
The gun blasts were fired following a “foolish” confrontation about right of way between two drivers - resulting in two shots being fired.

Tragically, one of the bullets came to rest in the victim’s spinal canal where it “remains to this day”.
Sheffield Crown Court heard how he was rushed to Northern General Hospital minutes after the shooting on Wilfred Drive, Darnall, - at 11.17pm on December 25.
Thankfully he survived various wounds including internal bleeding, a collapsed lung and fractured collar bone following emergency surgery.
Alleged shooter Raheel Mahmood, who is also known as “Billie” and “driver” Samin Khan, both aged 24, immediately fled in Khan’s grey VW Polo.
Mahmood was arrested in Bradford on January 14 and Khan handed himself in to Shepcote Lane Police Station through his solicitor on January 20.
Both men deny attempted murder and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Opening their trial on Monday (November 2) at Sheffield Crown Court Nick Adlington, prosecuting, described how less than an hour before the shooting Khan and the victim had a stand-off in their cars over right of way on a nearby street.
Then the victim “stupidly” pulled out a taser he used for “protection”, prompting Khan to drive off.
Mr Adlington said: “The prosecution case is following that confrontation Samin Khan summoned Raheel Mahmood and together they scoured the area for (the victim).
“Once he had been foolish enough to threaten them with a Taser his fate was sealed - they set out to kill him. They found him at 11.17pm on Wilfred Drive. Raheel Mahmood shot him. Samin Khan drove them to and from that location.
“But the actions of paramedics prevented them from succeeding in their attempt to murder (the victim).”
Jurors heard a second before he was gunned down the victim heard a “shout”. Mr Adlington said: “He turned around and saw the VW Polo around 13 metres away.

“The passenger door was open and the light came on in the car as he turned and saw Raheel Mahmood in the passenger side. He heard a ‘bang, bang’ and fell.”
Mr Adlington said the victim’s cousin - who had been called to help - heard the car’s passenger shout “you’re not a big, hard man now”.
“He saw the side of the passenger’s face and recognised him as Billie. He had a small black pistol in his hand, fired two shots at (the victim), who dropped to the floor and the Polo drove off.”
Mr Adlington said police found Khan’s Polo at 10.30am on Boxing Day parked and locked on nearby Gainsford Road and a bullet casing was found lodged between the passenger seat and the centre console.
Mahmood, of Elmham Road, and Khan, of Basford Close, were identified by their alleged victim later in a police video line-up.
The trial continues.
