Man accused of murdering Sheffield mum Shanice Brookes in fatal shooting outside city centre bar enters plea
The suspect appeared in court today
A man accused of murdering a young mum in a Sheffield city centre shooting entered a plea to the charge today.
30-year-old Shanice Brookes was an innocent bystander to an altercation near the One Four One bar when she was shot.
South Yorkshire Police said the confrontation took place on Eldon Street, near the junction with West Hill Street, shortly before the shooting.

Despite the efforts of medics at the scene, and later in hospital, Shanice could not be saved and died a few hours after the shooting, which occurred at around 2.45am on Bank Holiday Monday (May 25, 2026). She leaves behind a young son.
Jemele Rhone, aged 30, was charged with Shanice’s murder and appeared at Sheffield Crown Court via prison video link for a plea hearing this morning (Monday, July 20, 2026).
Dressed in a grey tracksuit, Rhone, formerly of Outram Road, Wybourn, Sheffield, pleaded not guilty to Shanice’s murder and will now stand trial in January 2027.
In addition to Shanice’s murder, Rhone also pleaded not guilty to charges of wounding with intent and possession of criminal property, namely £2,000 in cash.
His co-accused, Deiryen Dyce, aged 32, has been charged with offences including assisting an offender, possession of ammunition, possession of drugs with intent to supply, possession of drugs and possession of criminal property, namely £10,000 in cash.
She entered not guilty pleas to the charges during a hearing last week. Dyce will stand trial alongside Rhone next year.
The Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC, remanded both defendants into custody until their next hearing at the court.
The two defendants were both arrested in the hours following the shooting, after being located in Manchester.
