“If I get a chance to do community service I will be a changed man and get my head down”

A convicted paedophile deleted WhatsApp images from his phone while in the toilet during a police raid of his home, a court heard.

Shane Batorfi, aged 38, was handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order in 2014 for sexual activity with a child under the age of 16 - which the desperate phone memory wipe put him in breach of.

Prosecuting at Sheffield Crown Court, added that during the October 2024 raid police discovered various apps and and other software such as a disappearing messages app.

Batorfi, representing himself, told Judge Graham Reeds KC.: “I’m sorry for what I’ve done. If I get a chance to do community service I will be a changed man and get my head down. I’m truly sorry.”

Judge Reeds, noting Batorfi was “hardworking” and had kept out of trouble for 10 years prior to the latest offences, suspended a 20-month jail term for two years.

The defendant, of Lawn Avenue, Doncaster, admitted breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

He was handed 120 hours of unpaid work and 35 rehabilitation activity days.
