'Avoid the area' - M1 near Sheffield closed due to police incident

The closure is currently affecting both carriageways of the motorway between junctions 30 for Barlborough and 31 for Aston.

Motorists are being advised not to join the motorway network and plan alternative routes.

The police, fire and ambulance service are currently at the scene and traffic officers and maintenance crews are on their way to the area to assist.

The SYP Ops Twitter account posted: “The Roads Policing Group are currently responding to a serious incident on the M1 motorway along with other emergency service colleagues.

“It remains closed in both directions between junctions 30/31. Please avoid the area and do not join the network - plan alternative routes.”
