Caroline Flint’s call comes after the deaths of four women, two teen brothers and two men in horrific car crashes in some of the worst weeks on the roads in Doncaster’s history. She wants a review of speed limits.

She said: “The road casualty figures in Doncaster are truly alarming. Almost every month, there is another serious accident. Doncaster has not seen the year-by-year improvements in road safety in the last 15 years that many areas in the UK have seen.

“It is time we had a comprehensive review of speed limits that allows the community a big say in the limits in their neighbourhood.

“These roads are not owned by those who want to travel fastest through the borough or by businesses. They are owned by the community and managed on their behalf by the council. It is time communities had the final say on road safety.”

The spate of fatal crashes started on November 7 when Thomas Isle, aged 18, a brother, Ashley, aged 13 died after a crash on the A18 High Street, near Dunsville.

Thomas died at the scene, and Ashley died two days later in Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
