According to ZEISS, the move will help bring holographic windscreen displays into mainstream use more quickly.

ZEISS has acquired Scottish holographic technology specialist Ceres Holographics, bringing the Livingston-based company into its ZEISS Microoptics division. The move strengthens ZEISS' capabilities in industrial holography, combining its existing ProSight platform with Ceres' advanced hologram manufacturing technology to support applications across the automotive, aerospace and consumer sectors. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The acquisition will help accelerate the commercial rollout of holographic windscreen displays, bringing the technology closer to widespread use in the automotive sector. It will also support ZEISS' expansion into other holographic markets, including retail, near-eye displays and public transport.

By combining Ceres Holographics' expertise with ZEISS' global manufacturing capabilities, scale and customer reach, the enlarged team aims to offer a broader range of holographic solutions to customers and partners.

"Ceres Holographics and ZEISS share a clear vision and deep commitment to advancing holography. We admire the innovations and market recognition the Ceres team has achieved. Together, we will write a new chapter in holography commercialization, driving faster industrialization and unlocking broader market entry." said Dr. Roman Kleindienst, head of ZEISS Microoptics.

Andy Travers, who leads Ceres Holographics, added: "This acquisition marks an exciting new chapter for Ceres Holographics and the industrialization of holography.

"Over the past years, we have developed significantly differentiated hologram manufacturing technology and established strong commercial momentum, particularly in the field of automotive windshield display applications.

“Joining forces with ZEISS gives us the opportunity to build on that success and achieve greater scale, with more resource and global reach. We are excited about what our combined teams can achieve for our customers with existing and new partners."
