Applications for Zoom cards now open – discounted travel on the cards for young people in Sheffield
Zoom Under 16 and Zoom 16-18 concessionary travel passes provide proof of eligibility to travel for a discounted single journey fare of £1 on bus and tram, and half fare on Northern trains in South Yorkshire.
Pass holders can also use their card to buy a range of discounted daily, weekly and 28-day tickets from bus and tram operators, including prepaid tickets offering unlimited travel across South Yorkshire.
Zoom Beyond for 18- to 21-year-olds can be used as proof of eligibility to access the discounted £1.50 single fares offered by First, TM Travel and Stagecoach, as well as only £2 on South Yorkshire Supertram and a 15% discount on a range of TravelMaster tickets.
Oliver Coppard, South Yorkshire’s Mayor, said: “There is talent and opportunity right across our region, but it is only by connecting the two that we will unlock South Yorkshire's full potential.
“With the Zoom Pass we can help to connect our young people with opportunities that will help them stay near and go far, while also saving families hundreds of pounds every year. That’s why it’s so important that everyone eligible gets their Zoom pass in time for the start of the new academic year.
“Zoom and Zoom Beyond help young people make the most of our current public transport network, but I’m determined to go further.
“I refuse to accept a situation where people living across South Yorkshire aren’t able to access opportunities in South Yorkshire. Later this year, I’ll be setting out further detail on how we’re creating an integrated transport system that really does connect our communities as well as more on our ambitious plans to pilot free public transport for young people.”
Giancarlo Mempouo, a high school student in Sheffield, said: “We are all still being affected by the cost-of-living crisis - my Zoom youth pass allows me to get around South Yorkshire, with a bit more money to spend elsewhere!”

“Zoom and Zoom Beyond help young people make the most of public transport, but I’m always looking at ways in which we can go further and do more,“ continued Mayor Coppard.
“I will continue to work with the Department for Transport and others to deliver a better deal for bus passengers and deliver my manifesto promise to develop a fares policy for young people to create true freedom and choice for South Yorkshire’s next generation.
