Whether found wandering the streets or abandoned by their former owners, these pups are just looking for a home.
Of all the dogs in Sheffield waiting for their forever home, the pups at Sheffield City Council's kennels are some of the most deserving.
Whether abandoned by their owners or simply found wandering the streets, these dogs have had a rough time of it as of late and are now looking to put the past behind them. It's hard to fathom why anyone could give them up, but hardships like the cost of living crisis are leading to more and more pets being turned out from their homes in 2023.
They include "lovely" seven-month-old Sol, a male lurcher found as a stray in Sheffield; 10-year-old Patterdale Nip who came by the kennels "through no fault of this own" - and half a dozen Staffordshire Bull Terriers and other dogs found wandering the Steel City with no name or microchip.
Here are just 10 of the pups waiting at Sheffield City Council kennels for someone to give them a second chance, along with the description written for them by staff.
Adopting from the city council requires a £100 adoption fee which includes microchipping. All dogs but be neutered/spayed at an additional cost to the adopter.

"This lovely girl was brought into kennels after being found roaming as a stray. Unfortunately she doesn’t have a microchip we don’t know her name or exact age but have aged her at around 1 year. She is very small in size. She is very sweet & friendly and enjoys a lot of affection. She is fearful of dogs & has been a reactive towards some dogs in the kennel environment. She does not appear to be house trained & will need all aspects of training. " - http://www.ineedahome.co.uk/dogs/13413-french-bulldog-fawn-female/ | Sheffield City Council
This lovely girl was abandoned by her owners along with another red setter. She came into kennels in poor condition, bred from, had worms & was underweight & in need of a groom & a dental. She has since gained a little weight & received treatment for worms but will still require a dental at the adopters expense. According to her microchip she is 5 years old. She got a long well with the other red setter she was found with. She will need all aspects of training including house training. - http://www.ineedahome.co.uk/dogs/13422-irish-red-setter-female/ | Sheffield City Council
This lovely boy was brought into kennels after being found roaming as a stray. He is microchipped so we know his name is Sol & he is only a pup at 7 months old. Sol has the sweetest, most affectionate temperament, he’s a giddy boy that loves a fuss & a good play with toys. Sol needs all aspects of training including house training & lead training. Sol needs a lurcher loving home to give him the care he needs. - http://www.ineedahome.co.uk/dogs/13420-sol-lurcher-male-brindle/ | Sheffield City Council
"This merle Cane Corso was brought into kennels after being found roaming as a stray. His microchip is unfortunately not registered so we don’t know his name or date of birth but have aged him around only 1 year old. He is a big lad & is very strong on the lead & will need a strong confident handler along with some lead training. He does jump up a lot & is boisterous so will need a home without young children. He may need a gentle reminder when it comes to housetraining. He loves a fuss & to lean on whoever he’s with – he’s not overly food motivated but does like certain toys." - http://www.ineedahome.co.uk/dogs/13432-cane-corso-cross-male/ | Sheffield City Council
