Sheffield retro: 27 nostalgic photos taking you back to 1976, when Sheffield baked during long, hot summer

From families out in the sun to lost clubs and pubs

It was the year Sheffield experienced one of the hottest and driest summers on record.

These photos take you back to 1976, when Sheffield along with much of the country was hit by drought conditions.

They show families out in the sun during the Sheffield Show and Sheffield Pageant, among other events.

But they also capture other aspects of daily life nearly half a century ago, from lost nightclubs like the popular Fiesta club to old shops and fondly remembered pubs.

This retro photo gallery shows the summer of 1976 as well as the spring, autumn and winter that year, including excitement during the run-up to Christmas.

From Crookes to Attercliffe, and Fargate to Hillsborough, it depicts scenes from around Sheffield.

Do these pictures from the archive bring back any memories, and are there any old faces you recognise from all those years ago?
