10 Sheffield Wetherspoons pubs to cut prices for one day only

The saving on your £10 bill could buy you... an extra hash brown or perhaps a biscuit with your tea

Ten Wetherspoons pubs in Sheffield will cut the price of all food and drink one day next week for ‘Tax Quality Day’.

Customers will get a very precise 7.5 per cent discount on Thursday, September 17, in support of reducing VAT in the hospitality industry.

For example, if the total price of a meal and drinks for an individual comes to £10, it will be reduced to £9.25 - enough for an extra 65p hash brown at breakfast, or a shortbread biscuit with you coffee for 75p.

The pubs taking part are

- The Bankers Draft in Market Place

- The Woodseats Palace in Chesterfield Road, Woodseats

- The Benjamin Huntsman in Cambridge Street

- The Rawson Spring in Langsett Road

- The Sheffield Waterworks Company in Division Street

- The Sheaf Island in Ecclesall Road

- The Francis Newton in Clarkehouse Road

- The Wagon & Horses in Market Place, Chapeltown

- The Scarsdale Hundred in Sevenairs Road, Beighton

- The Steel Foundry in The Oasis, Meadowhall Centre.

The promotion is in protest of how, at present, all food and drink in pubs is subject to 20 per cent VAT - compared to, for example, supermarkets, which have no VAT on essential food items.

The Bankers Draft manager, Jonathan Atkinson, said: “We are proud to support the campaign to reduce the level of VAT within the hospitality industry.

“We are keen to highlight the amount customers could save if VAT in pubs was lowered permanently.

“A reduction in the level of VAT on a long-term basis will generate growth and create jobs in the important hospitality sector and help the high street, of which pubs are an integral part.”
