"End of an era" - The Yorkshireman in Sheffield city centre set for closure two years after it reopened

“The time has come to call last orders at The Yorkshireman”

A pub that has “always been a huge part of Sheffield's rock scene” is set to close the weekend.

The Yorkshireman, on Arundel Gate, will open for the last time on Saturday, October 10 at midday - featuring 12 hours of DJs, drinks, live music and “a whole lotta rock” for a farewell event.

The beloved rock bar has been a haven of live music in Sheffield, however briefly closed in January 2024 with management saying it was due to “reasons personal to our family”.

Three months later and the pub reopened when regulars Mark Chambers and Ingrida Kavaliauskaite decided to take the venue over.

“This is a post we never thought we’d be writing,” the team wrote in an announcement on Facebook on October 7.

“The time has come to call last orders at The Yorkshireman. The Yorkshireman has always been a huge part of Sheffield's rock scene whether it be the DJs or the bands or just the atmosphere overall and has never been quiet.

“All the stories, all the memories, all the bands, all the parties, to all the regulars from Sheffield and surrounding areas who been coming in for years and to all the people who travelled from Birmingham, Leeds, London, Cornwall, Scotland and everywhere in between to watch a band thank you all.

“To all the people who been with us since midday or during the weeks for our metal nights or comedy clubs or battle of the bands and to all the people who with us Fridays or Saturdays or with us well after midnight thank you all.

“Through all the different eras, decades and locations of The Yorkshireman, one thing has always stayed the same: The people of Sheffield's amazing rock community.”

People flooded the comments with memories of the beloved venue, describing the closure as the “end of an era” and “more sad news for Sheffield”.

“Met some of the most wonderful people in here, had some of the happiest times,” Gina Shaw wrote.

“Met the love of my life at the end of that bar, worked behind it and found people I now call my family.

“This place has literally changed my life. I will never, ever forget it and I'll be forever grateful to Mark and Ingrida for everything. I wish you the best of luck with your future ventures.”

Peter Tate echoed this, adding: “God no - you were one of the few real, last vestiges of that wonderful, friendly rock family we became part of.

“Whatever you do, we hope that every second is enjoyable.

“Thank you for the friendship and gigs.”

The Yorkshireman was previously based on Burgess Street, beside the old John Lewis department store.

But it moved in 2021 to the former Mulberry Tavern site on Arundel Gate.

The Burgess Street venue, believed to date back to around 1790, was demolished in 2022 due to structural concerns.
