Sheff United and Sheff Wednesday unite over curry as award-winning restaurant pushes for national title
A much-loved Ecclesall Road restaurant is starting to develop a habit for attracting famous faces
Former stars from Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday were seen putting their club rivalries to the side at a local restaurant earlier this week.
Prithiraj, which is in contention to win the British Curry Awards later this year, has developed a habit for attracting famous faces both from the Steel City and beyond.
It’s little wonder that’s the case based on their stellar 4.4 star reviews on Google and on TripAdvisor, which is based on more than 10 years of service in student hotspot Ecclesall Road.
The restaurant which already has Chris Wilder as a regular customer and has a special dish for him on the menu, attracted the attention of one of his predecessors Paul Heckingbottom - currently of Preston North End - who is credited with steering the Blades to the Premier League after a second placed finish in the 2022/23 campaign.

Heckingbottom, who during his playing days also had a promotion-winning spell at Hillsborough, was joined on his table by former Nottingham Forest shot-stopper Mark Crossley, who also played for Wednesday in the 2006/07 season although the two were never teammates.

The duo were part of a bigger group, which also featured Bradford City and Hull City great Dean Windass, who is in a unique group of players to have featured for both Sheffield clubs.

Restaurant manager Salim told The Star: “It was a pleasure to have them in the restaurant. And on behalf of everyone here at Prithiraj we are wishing England the best of luck at the World Cup this summer.”
The 100-seater restaurant isn’t just loved by footballers either.
Earlier this year they welcomed well-renowned TV presenter Dan Walker, while in the past they’ve also had Game of Thrones actor James Cosmo, Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill, musician Richard Hawley along with comedian Steve Bracknell and professional quizzers Mark Labbett and Anne Hegerty from The Chase.
Sobuj said: “I think it’s the word of mouth that attracts celebrities to our restaurant.”
