Popular Sheffield city pub The Foresters set for total refurbishment and new name

The Foresters is set to reopen under a new name

One of the city’s most distinctive pubs is set for a new look and a new name as bosses bid to put it back into the heart of the community.

The Foresters on Division Street closed in August with a sign on the front door saying that the venue would remain closed until further notice due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Owners at Pub People, later confirmed that the closure was to allow a £250,000 refurbishment to take place.

Now, planning applications submitted to Sheffield Council reveal what customers can expect from the new-look pub when it reopens under a new name.

“Pub People are planning a full internal refurbishment to the premises,” a planning document states.

“The external courtyard area is also planned to have a refurbishment.”

If approved, the plans would see a new smoking shelter, the removal of fences above the boundary walls and the introduction of festoon lighting.

New signage would also be installed, with the pub taking on the new name ‘Six Barrel Drafthouse’.

The building would also be repainted white, with the Guinness glass mural on the rear end covered.

Developers hope that the refurbishment will help put the pub back into the heart of the community.

Planning documents go on to say: “The site is owned by Pub People and the immediate information on the site is that once open post-refurbishment, it will be central to the local community and play a part in the daily lives of locals, particularly city centre dwellers and the nearby student community.

“The opportunities for our client are that they wish to provide a welcoming experience to all visitors and provide improved facilities for all.

“With doing this they expect that a range of new customers will visit the site and this will be worth the investment they are proposing.”
