Parking cameras installed at Sheffield pub The Belfrey used by medical patients
“On some occasions we have found non-guests are using the car park so spaces become more scarce for customers”
A popular Sheffield pub has introduced parking cameras to stop non-customers taking scarce spaces.
The Belfry on Eckington Road, Beighton, has hired Britannia Parking to “protect genuine guest parking”.

The large car park is used by patients visiting Sothall Medical Centre, opposite, and during Westfield School drop-off and pick up times.
Eckington Road and the first 100 yards of Hartland Avenue, at the side of the pub, have double yellow lines.
It is the second Sheffield pub to install parking cameras this week after The Fox House at Longshaw, where the huge free car park was often rammed while the boozer remained quiet.
A spokesperson for the Belfry said: “We want our customers to be able to park in our car park when they visit the Belfry.

“On some occasions, however, we have found that non-guests are using the car park so spaces become more scarce for customers.
“To overcome this, we have introduced a new parking system. Parking continues to be free of charge for genuine pub customers.”
Customers will need to input their vehicle details at the bar or entrance to the pub when they arrive, they added.
And they are urged to keep their receipts.
The spokesperson said: “In the event that genuine pub guests mistakenly receive a parking notice charge following a visit to the pub, we encourage them to contact the Greene King Customer Relations team - [email protected] - with details of the date and time of their visit, their order receipt and the parking notice charge reference number, and a cancellation of the charge will be processed.”
Britannia buys drivers’ addresses from the DVLA and sends letters demanding £100, or £60 if paid within 14 days.
On a local Facebook group, one member said: “Be aware that If you used to or have parked in the The Belfry Pub car park when visiting the Sothall Medical Centre then this is no longer an option.
“The Belfry pub car park is now restricted to pub customers only (which is fair and their right).
“I saw the signs today as I visited the medical centre for an appointment and ended up parking on the main road to avoid any invoice for parking there.”
Another said: “Not very community spirited from Greene King the owners of the Belfry.”
A third was worried about school times.
“That’s just going to make all the school parents park on double yellows on Hartland Avenue now.”
A fourth agreed: “The roads around the school are a complete nightmare morning and afternoon.”
