New Sheffield restaurant offering “a little taste of Marbella” comes with chance to spot football stars
An ex-Blade and former Premier League stars are shareholders
A new restaurant is opening in a top Sheffield hotel offering the “possibility of rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in sport”.
Spanish brand La Sala is launching an eaterie in the former Mercure hotel in the city centre, describing it as “a little taste of Marbella”.

The 169-room four-star hotel on Norfolk Street is now called voco Sheffield after being acquired by German company 1912 Hotels.
Sala Group runs hospitality and entertainment venues in the popular Spanish resort.
La Sala Sheffield will be its first UK hotel partnership, opening in the autumn.
Ex-Blade Michael Brown and former Premier League stars David Bentley, Paul Robinson and Stephen Carr are all shareholders in the group.
The company also claims close ties to players, managers and personalities in the game and says customers could end up rubbing shoulders with a sporting legend.
The firm said: “Michael Brown remains a hugely popular figure with Sheffield United fans, while La Sala’s close ties to players, managers and personalities across the game mean you never quite know who might walk through the door.
“From familiar faces to footballing legends, La Sala Sheffield will offer guests the genuine possibility of rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in sport.”
The restaurant will offer lunches, meetings and after-work drinks, dinner, cocktails and late-evening entertainment.
Live music and DJs will be central to the proposition, “bringing the energy and atmosphere associated with La Sala Marbella to the heart of Sheffield”.
The new restaurant will be on the ground floor and the entrance will be opposite Piccolinos.
The existing Ego restaurant is unaffected.
