I Need A Home, which lists dogs for Sheffield Council’s Stray Kennels, has 29 dogs listed as up for adoption at the moment.
There are a few new faces at RSPCA Sheffield and Blue Cross, too.
The majority of pups listed by the centres were sadly found as strays, while the rest are there due to circumstances out of their control.
Yola, at the council’s kennels, was sadly found abandoned with a note from her owner tied around her neck.
If you’re thinking of getting a dog, why not adopt instead of buy from a breeder, and give one of these pups a home?

9. Stella, at RSPCA Sheffield
Stella is a two-year-old Lurcher. "Stella find kennels a little worrying and stressful at times, making her anxious around new people. However away from the kennel and outside she is a lovely lady, who wants nothing more than to snuggle with you. Typical of a lurcher she doesn’t know her size and will try to be a lapdog. She is such a clever lady when she is engaged, she just wants to please. She can be a little picky when it comes to her walking pals, and so we feel, Stella would be better as the only pet in the home. She doesn't like to be left alone, so her new family will need to support her while learning its ok to be alone. In the beginning her family must be around most of the day, and ideally have some separation anxiety experience." | RSPCA
10. Fern, at RSPCA Sheffield
Fern is a 7-year-old Lurcher. "From the beginning Fern has been a little sweetheart and just wants to be everyone's friend. Typical of her breed she doesn’t know her size and will try to be a lapdog. She is such a clever lady when she is engaged, she just wants to please. She loves her tennis balls, and will play all day if you let her. Fern just loves to be with her people and will smother you in affection, we think she would be ok to live with dog savvy children who have experienced large dogs and a secure garden is a must." | RSPCA
11. Suki, at Blue Cross
Suki is a nine-year-old chihuahua cross. "Suki has come into our care due to a change in her previous owner’s circumstances. Suki will need a quiet and patient home to help her settle into her new life. She could potentially live with children aged secondary school age and above. Suki can be vocal when meeting new dogs, and introductions to new dogs would need to be built up slowly and gradually. Suki is a sweet dog that loves her teddy and sitting in your lap! She likes to play tug, loves her treats and definitely knows the word “biscuit!” If you have a Suki shaped space in your home, or in your heart, please don’t hesitate to apply for her." | Blue Cross
