Of course, we could not do a list with everyone who is famous from the Steel City, but here are some people you know and some you may be surprised to know lived or worked in our great city.
13. Sir Hans Adolf Krebs
The German born biochemist and winner of the 1953 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was the head of University of Sheffield's Department of Biochemistry in 1938. He worked at the university for 19 years, met his wife and had two sons who were born in the city and he made Sheffield his home. Photo: Submitted
14. Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill
The 33-year-old track and field olympian was born in Sheffield and got her first taste of athletics at a summer school at the Don Valley Stadium in 1996.
