UK's coronavirus death toll updated today after another 861 deaths

A total of 13,729 people have now died of coronavirus in the UK, according to the latest figures released this afternoon.

The Department of Health has revealed that since yesterday’s published figures, another 861 deaths have been recorded across the UK.

The figures relate to the death toll as of 5pm yesterday and only include patients who died in hospital after contracting coronavirus.

Earlier today, NHS England revealed that 126 patients have now died in Sheffield – up 12 on yesterday’s figure.

Rotherham’s death toll has risen by 13, with 45 fatalities now recorded.

A total of 49 hospital patients in Barnsley have died - up three on yesterday’s figure; and Doncaster’s death toll has risen by seven, with 48 deaths recorded.

The UK remains on lockdown to reduce the spread of the virus.

MPs are discussing social distancing measures today.
