NHS England figures released today show an increase of nine deaths in city hospitals compared to yesterday.

A total of 14,576 people have now died across the UK – up 847 on yesterday’s figures.

Rotherham’s death toll has risen by five and now stands at 50.

The same number of fatalities has also been recorded in Barnsley – an increase of one since yesterday.

And in Doncaster, 51 people have now died after contracting Covid-19 – a rise of three.

The UK remains on lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus after the government agreed to extend it yesterday for at least another three weeks.

It means people can only leave their homes for shopping, essential travel to work, exercise once a day and for medical supplies or appointments.
