Another 72 deaths of Covid-19 hospital patients in England have been recorded today by NHS England, taking the overall death toll in the country to 27,431.

The deaths logged today were of patients aged between 45 and 96 who all had known underlying health conditions.

In Sheffield the death toll remains at 275, which is the same as yesterday.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has recorded 192 deaths, which is also the same as yesterday.

There have been 175 deaths in Rotherham, which is up one on yesterday and 129 in Barnsley, which is an increase of three.

There are fears over the impact mass anti-racism demonstrations across the UK this weekend will have on the spread of coronavirus.

Ministers urged people to avoid large gatherings, with Health Secretary Matt Hancock among those to voice concerns.
