Sheffield Children's Hospital nurse handed award for providing support to families 'when they need it most'

Clinical nurse specialist from Sheffield Children’s Hospital Janine Reynolds was given the hospital’s first ever DAISY award after she was described as ‘an absolute star’ in her role in the Sleep Services department, who goes ‘above and beyond to be there when families need it the most.’
The award for extraordinary nurses in partnership with the Diseases Attacking the Immune System Foundation aims to honour nurses and midwives across the world for delivering outstanding care to patients and their loved ones.

Hide AdThe Sheffield Children’s Hospital nurse was also praised for making work ‘enjoyable and satisfying’ for her colleagues during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Janine said: “I’m delighted and stunned to receive the first ever DAISY award for Sheffield Children’s!
"Thank you to those who nominated me.
"I feel so grateful to be working in such a fantastic team and this is the cherry on top of such an amazing week after moving into our brand new Sleep House!”
The healthcare professional has worked in the sleep medicine field as an experienced nurse specialist since 2008 and runs nurse-led sleep clinics to provide specialist advice to educate and support children, young people and their parents or carers.

Hide AdAs part of the award, Janine also received a stone hand-carved sculpture called ‘The Healer’s Touch’ made in Zimbabwe.
One of the nominators explained why they wanted the sleep nurse specialist to win the award: "She goes above and beyond to be there when families need it the most.
"She is an absolute star and makes our job so enjoyable and satisfying during a very unpredictable time that we have never known before in our lifetime.”
Fellow Sheffield Children’s Hospital staff were also nominated for the international honour and the hospital congratulated DAISY runners up Liz Adams, from the Neonatal Surgery Unit, Hannah Richardson from the Haematology/Oncology Clinic and Alice Edwards from the Paediatric Critical Care Unit.
