Rotherham MP encourages families to take part in Rother Valley water safety course after tragic death
There are limited spaces for the safety event
An MP is encouraging people to attend a water safety event after the tragic death of a teenage boy at a popular nature park.
The water safety awareness day has been scheduled for Sunday June 14 at Rother Valley Country Park, where just this week 16-year-old Muhammed Secka tragically died in the water.

Muhammed - who friends say “everybody liked” - is one of 11 people who have died in open water across the country during the UK’s ongoing heatwave.
MP for Rother Valley, Jake Richards, has encouraged people to attend the safety awareness day in response to the numerous tragedies.
The Labour MP said: “After recent tragic events both locally and across the country, I would really encourage people with young children in their lives to attend this event and learn more about how to enjoy outdoor swimming safely.
“This event is followed by a fun afternoon with safety demonstrations from the fire service, and an activity station ran by Sam's Army who do really important work raising awareness around water safety in the area.”
Only 60 places are available for children over the age of nine, with pre-booking required by emailing rvcp.enquiries@rotherham.gov.uk.
