Diabetes sufferer boxer Muhammad Ali to give Sheffield people advice on how to be active with the condition

People who have diabetes are being invited are invited to a conference to find out how they can be active, and will hear advice from a professional boxer.

Sheffield's Diabetes UK, along with Sheffield's Move More partners, are hosting the conference on Saturday, January 18.

Margaret Fowler, of Sheffield Diabetes UK, said: “The Move More with Diabetes event will help people to increase their activity levels, which will help in managing their diabetes, and is open to people from five to 105 who have diabetes.

“Presenters include top academics, top clinicians and brilliantly active people who’ve got diabetes, and we intend the day to be fun, educational and inspiring, enabling problem and success sharing and helping people to find what works for them.”

Professional boxer Muhammad Ali, who has type 1 diabetes, will also be speaking at the event, which will be held at Ponds Forge on Saturday, January 18 from 10am to 4.30pm.

Dr Rajiv Gandhi, Consultant in Diabetes, Clinical Director of Diabetes & Endocrinology ay Sheffield Teaching Hospitals said: “Physical activity is extremely important in helping people with diabetes to maintain their health and improve their control. This day is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to find out about ways to improve their health.”
