Footage from The Nursery Tavern on Ecclesall Road shows supporters standing on tables, dancing and embracing one another as they celebrate the Three Lions’ 1-0 victory against Croatia in their opening match of Euro 2021 on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the pub said: “The safety of all our guests and team is our top priority and to ensure this we have implemented stringent Covid-secure measures across the pub.

"Sadly, some fans who watched the game at the pub on Sunday did not adhere to these measures. Since the game, we have been working closely with the local licensing authority and will be increasing security measures at the pub for the game on the Friday.

“It’s been great to welcome fans to the pub for the opening games of the Euros and we understand they have been looking forward to the tournament for a long time. However, it’s important that when in the pub all fans respect and follow the safety measures we have in place.”

The scenes at The Nursery Tavern were similar to those witnessed that day on Ecclesall Road itself, where hundreds of fans gathered and stopped traffic as they marched down the middle of the road chanting and holding flags aloft before being dispersed by police.

England’s Euro 2021 campaign is set to continue this Friday at 8pm, when they take on Scotland at Wembley as they aim to make it two wins from two.
