How to dispose of used tissues in Sheffield if you think you may have coronavirus

People who are self-isolating due to potential coronavirus in Sheffield have been given advice on disposing of used tissues, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Waste and recycling collections across the city are currently operating as normal but Sheffield Council says it expects services to be affected by the pandemic.

It says a shortage of workers may lead to the temporary suspension of some services, including bulky waste collections, but black bin and clinical waste collections will be prioritised.

Public Health England says personal waste like used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths from households showing coronavirus symptoms can be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags.

Police set to get new powers to arrest and isolate people in coronavirus battle

Sheffield Council says these bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste for at least 72 hours before being put into the black bin.

All other household waste can be disposed of as normal.
