Ghost town: Drone footage reveals empty Sheffield streets during coronavirus lockdown
This drone footage shows shows Sheffield’s streets eerily deserted as people observe the coronavirus restrictions by staying at home.
Daniel Grice captured the video from the skies above his home in Beighton.
“I think a lot of people are observing the restrictions. As you can see from the footage, Crystal Peaks is pretty empty, but I still think there’s around 15-20 per cent not following the guidelines,” said the 40-year-old self-employed joiner.
“It’s hard but my thoughts are the quicker we stop the spread the quicker we get back to our normal lives.”
South Yorkshire Police officers have been dispersing groups flouting the rules, but the force would not comment on whether it plans to use drones.
“On the whole, we are seeing that the majority of communities in South Yorkshire are following the new guidelines. As a last resort, where people fail to comply, we will move to enforcement using the legislation available to us,” it said.
