Drivers making non-essential trips to waste recycling centres in Sheffield will be fined, they have been warned.

The city’s Household Waste Recycling Centres remain open to Sheffield residents during the coronavirus lockdown but should only be used if absolutely essential.

“The police will be issuing fines at the sites for non-essential visits and a visit must only be made if waste disposal is essential and unavoidable,” said Sheffield Council.

People are advised to store any waste from household clearances at home until restrictions have been eased and the sites are operating ‘as normal’, or to contact a registered skip hire company.

Police today said measures were in place to prevent vehicles queuing to enter another recycling site on Beighton Road and urged drivers not to wait in the entrances to private driveways as some have been doing.
