WATCH: 'out of control' blaze in Sheffield as fire service issues warning

Fire crews have warned the public to stop having fires after three fire engines were needed to tackle a garden fire in Sheffield which got “out of control”.

Pictures and video taken on Thursday evening showed a “massive” fire taking place on Gleadless Road, which could be seen some distance away. One onlooker said the blaze was “preceded by loud bang.”

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the incident was “another” garden fire in Sheffield and spread to several houses.

The service said they have seen a “huge spike” in garden fires during the last week in March – a 161 percent increase compared to a normal week.

The incident has prompted South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue to warn the public of the dangers of starting fires.

They tweeted: “This was yet ANOTHER garden fire which got out of control. Three fire engines needed to tackle it.

“Air quality worse for those with respiratory illnesses. Stop. Having. Fires.”
