Covid death in Sheffield one of just 15 recorded across England

Another person has sadly died with Covid in Sheffield’s hospitals, on a day when just 15 more such deaths were announced across England.

The latest fatalities announced today by NHS England were recorded between 4pm on Saturday and 4pm yesterday, Sunday, April 4, but some had taken place earlier due to the lag in reporting.

The latest death at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust happened on Saturday, April 3.

Across England, the latest people to die with Covid-19 in hospitals were aged between 51 and 90 and all had known underlying health conditions.

Of the 15 new deaths, five were in the North East & Yorkshire – the most of any region in England.

One further death was announced in Barnsley and one in Rotherham but there were none in Doncaster.

The total number of confirmed reported Covid deaths at hospitals nationally now stands at 86,422.

Sheffield’s weekly infection rate is 107.7, according to the latest government data, with the England-wide rate now 47.3.
