Coronavirus claims more lives in Sheffield, as England death toll rises by 149

Across England, another 149 COVID-19 hospital deaths were confirmed today, Friday, May 29, taking the total to 26,383.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, no new hospital deaths were recorded in Doncaster, where 179 people have died; there were two more deaths in Rotherham, taking the total there to 158; and three more people died in Barnsley, where there have now been 119 fatalities.

The latest figures from NHS England are for confirmed deaths at hospitals in the 24 hours up to 5pm on Thursday, May 28. They do not include deaths at care homes or elsewhere in the community.

Across all settings, 37,837 people are known to have died in the UK after testing positive for COVID-19.

To date, 269,127 people have tested positive for the disease, including 2,528 in Sheffield, 948 in Barnsley, 765 in Doncaster and 957 in Rotherham.
