Another patient has died with coronavirus in Sheffield, where the number of Covid-19 hospital deaths is nearing 300.

The latest death, announced today, Thursday, September 24, took place on Tuesday at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals trust, which runs the Royal Hallamshire and Northern General hospitals.

A total of 292 patients being treated by the trust have now died with coronavirus, with three deaths among patients of Sheffield Health and Social Care trust and one at Sheffield Children’s Hospital taking the city’s death to 296.

There have been 208 hospital deaths in Rotherham, most recently on Sunday, September 20; 235 at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals trust, including one on Sunday and another on Monday; and 149 in Barnsley, where no deaths have been recorded since September 2.

The 888 hospital deaths recorded across South Yorkshire since the pandemic began do not include fatalities at care homes or in the community.

Across England, another 30 Covid-19 hospital deaths were confirmed today, taking the total to 29,838.
