25 more coronavirus deaths in South Yorkshire confirmed in just 24 hours

Sheffield’s coronavirus death toll has risen again as a further 25 deaths across the region were confirmed on Wednesday.

No fewer than 15 Covid-related deaths have been recorded by Doncaster & Bassetlaw NHS Trust in the last 24 hours, with six hospital deaths also confirmed in Barnsley and two in both Sheffield and Rotherham.

The Covid-19 death toll in Sheffield’s hospitals now stands at 455. In Doncaster, 412 people have now died, while 306 deaths have been recorded in Rotherham and 286 in Barnsley.

Nationally, a further 353 people, who tested positive for the disease have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 39,219.

The patients were aged between 20 and 98 years old. All except 16 – aged 38 to 92 years old – had known underlying health conditions.

Their families have been informed.
