Barnsley FC announces positive Covid-19 result for staff member after round of testing at club

A member of staff at Barnsley Football Club has tested positive for Covid-19.

The ‘backroom staff’ members tested positive after a round of testing for coronavirus on Friday, June 5.

It has been revealed that the member of staff was asymptomatic and is said to be ‘safe and upbeat’.

First team players returned to training at Oakwell at the end of May but academy players have not yet returned.

In a statement, the club said: “The single positive test is from an asymptomatic member of backroom staff who had tested negative in all four previous rounds.

“The individual will now follow the relevant guidance and undergo a period of isolation whilst remaining in close communication with club personnel, before being re-tested at a later date.

“Many have worked tirelessly to ensure that Oakwell remains a safe environment for players and staff alike. Barnsley FC will continue to follow EFL protocol and instruction.

“The staff member is safe and upbeat.”
