“Leaders are determined to unlock pupils' potential. They foster a culture where pupils believe that anything is possible”

A Sheffield secondary school where “pupils thrive” and “believe anything is possible” has earned a top-of-the-class rating from Ofsted.

Confident students, “ambitious” classes and quality extra-curricular clubs were just some of the areas at High Storrs School praised by the education watchdog in a spotless report published today (October 8).

In fact, with an overall score of ‘strong standard’ in all areas, it makes the Bents Green school the best rated secondary school in Sheffield to date under Ofsted’s new, stricter framework rolled out in 2026.

“Pupils are proud to be a member of High Storrs School,” the report reads.

“They feel a strong sense of belonging, which is evident in the positive relationships they have with staff and with each other. This is reflected in pupils’ above-average attendance rates and their enjoyment of learning.

“Pupils thrive because of the highly ambitious and rich curriculum and the expertise of their teachers.

“Leaders are determined to unlock pupils' potential. They foster a culture where pupils believe that anything is possible. As a result, pupils leave school well prepared for their next stage of education as active, engaged and responsible citizens.”

The only blemishes was a note from inspectors that “grammatical accuracy” is not always consistently checked and to ensure adaptations for SEND pupils have the intended effect.

Headteacher Dr Claire Tasker said: “We are really pleased - we had some time to share feedback and thank our wonderful staff on a recent INSET day.

“And we got the message out to students that they had done us proud.

“I think we felt seen, understood and celebrated by this Ofsted team.

“The staff at High Storrs work so hard every day and our students are a joy to work with.

“I am biased, but it is a special place.”

The school, operated by Minerva Learning Trust, was rated ‘Good’ in all areas at its last visit in 2022, but is today one of the city’s best performing secondaries for GCSE and A-Level results.

It is also one of the most in-demand schools for parents looking for a place for their Y7 child each year, turning down nearly 100 children to fill its classrooms in time for the new academic year in 2026.
