Granny Norbag takes on London with her own travel guide

One unlikely South Yorkshire granny is aiming to become an internet sensation with a new short film that takes her to the streets and sights of London.
Granny Norbag is the larger than life puppet character created Rotherham teacher, performer, composer and writer Malcolm J Hogan, who began telling Granny Norbag stories to his young pupils almost 20 years ago.
His first Granny Norbag book - Granny Norbag and the Naughty Pirates - was published in 2018, illustrated by artist Nick Oldham, and was followed by more stories, songs, a podcast and a Granny Norbag stage show.
And more recently Malcom has been working with Doncaster film maker Wayne Sables to create a film which took Granny to some of the capital’s most famous landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden, the West End’s Theatres and the Houses of Parliament.
The 12 minute feature - which was filmed entirely on iPhone - has now been completed and can be viewed on granny’s social media channels, including Facebook, Youtube, Instagram and X.
“I first encountered Malcolm during the Covid lockdown when he signed up for one of my online smartphone filming courses,” said Wayne.
“Granny Norbag has been a big success but Malcolm felt she needed her own travelogue-style feature and I was invited to capture her adventure on film.
“We decided to film it on the iPhone 15 Pro with professional sound because this is a project that we want to be simple but of really outstanding TV quality.
“At the same time, filming on the phone meant we didn’t attract too much attention from other tourists so it made the job much easier to complete.
“It’s proof of what you can do with the tools you have to hand and which are already part of the creative process if you know how to utilise them correctly.”
