Stormzy's accountants in big Sheffield move

An accountancy firm to the stars, whose client list includes Stormzy, Jarvis Cocker and Richard Hawley, is set to move to a former car showroom site in Sheffield.

Brown McLeod - which also looks after a host of other music and film professionals - is set to move 65 staff into old Gilders site on Ecclesall Road in February.

The firm, headquartered on Clarkegrove Road, Broomhall, will combine its three Sheffield offices into one. It has taken the old workshop and stores behind the plate glass showroom at the junction with Psalter Lane.

The design and fit-out is by Sheffield specialists OVO Spaces and will reflect the company’s music and film focus, according to Brown McLeod’s managing director John Roddison, who heads up the entertainments team.

He added: “Most of our clients are from the music and film sector so although we are chartered accountants, there’s a nice twist to it which we are incorporating into the building.

“It will bring life into the building and, with a staff of 65, local businesses at Banner Cross will also benefit.”

A ‘rusty’ exterior has already been fitted.

Planning permission was granted in April to convert the showroom into four retail and leisure units. Eight ‘luxury’ townhouses are set to be built at the rear of the two-acre site.

The location, now owned by Primesite, had been dormant for a number of years following Gilders’ relocation to Meadowhead.

In 2009 an application for a supermarket and 16 homes was refused after opposition from neighbours who objected mainly on traffic grounds. Then in 2010 councillors gave the go-ahead for a restaurant or bar above a food shop. The workshops would have become apartments and at the rear, off Talmont Road, seven houses were planned.

However, work did not start.

In 2013, much of the Gilder business was bought by Bradford-based JCT600 but the Banner Cross showroom was not part of the deal and, after another owner, it was bought by Primesite.
